The art of multi-asset forum gives you a behind the scenes look into the rigorous fund selection process carried out by Architas when constructing our multi-manager funds. Bringing together some of the leading, specialist fund managers in asset management; we will take a deep dive by asset class into some of the most successful funds we hold and how each fund contributes to the overall performance and diversification of our multi-manager portfolios.
Sheldon MacDonald
Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Architas
Sheldon co-manages Architas Multi-Asset Blended, Architas Multi-Asset Passive and Elite Fund ranges, as well as the Architas Diversified Real Assets, Architas Diversified Global Income and Architas Multi-Manager UK Equity Funds. He oversees fund selection and manages the products' asset allocation and investment strategies. He also leads fund manager research on multi-asset and money market strategies.
Before joining Architas in 2010, Sheldon was a fund of funds manager at Nedgroup Investments, part of Old Mutual Plc. As well as running a varietyof long only multi-asset strategies, Sheldon has extensive experience in the hedge fund space and, prior to joining Nedgroup Investments, was Head of Derivative Trading at Old Mutual Asset Managers in South Africa.
Sheldon has a BComm in Financial Accounting and Economics and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a CFA charterholder. He has 22 years of investment experience.
Mark Phelps
Chief Investment Officer – Concentrated Global Growth, AB
Mark Phelps is Chief Investment Officer of Concentrated Global Growth. Prior to joining AB in December 2013, he was president and managing director of Global Investments at W.P. Stewart & Co. From September 2008 to June 2013, Phelps also served as W.P. Stewart’s chief executive officer.
He originally joined W.P. Stewart & Co. (Europe) in February 2005 as a global portfolio manager. Prior to that, Phelps held senior positions with the Kleinwort Benson/Dresdner Bank organization in London and San Francisco, most recently serving as CIO for Global Equities at Dresdner RCM in San Francisco.
He holds a BA (Hons) in economics from the University of York and completed graduate studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Phelps served in the British Army from 1981 to 1984, achieving the rank of Captain. Location: London
Richard Bullas
Vice President, Portfolio Manager - UK Equity, Franklin
Richard Bullas is a vice president and portfolio manager at Franklin Templeton Fund Management. He is co-manager on the Franklin UK Smaller Companies Fund and manages the Smaller Companies portion of the Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. Richard has worked with the fund management team for over 13 years, joining Franklin Templeton Fund Management via the acquisition of Rensburg Fund Management in 2011.
Mr. Bullas joined the team in 2000 as a Trainee Fund Manager, supporting the fund managers on a range of equity unit trusts while studying for his professional investment qualifications (IMC and Chartered MCSI). After 3 years he was appointed Assistant Fund Manager, assisting and reporting to the investment director, specifically on the management of the Franklin UK Smaller Companies Trust and the Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. From 2006 he was made Fund Manager and Associate Director while at Rensburg, comanaging 2 UK Equity Mandates as well deputy fund manager on the Franklin UK Select Growth Trust and Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. Richard has covered the UK smaller companies sector for 13 years and has considerable experience researching and analysing smaller companies.
Prior to joining Rensburg Fund Management (now Franklin Templeton Fund Management) Mr. Bullas worked at AVIVA Plc as a Market Analyst in the life and pensions department. Prior to that he spent a short time working at a Chartered Accountants, for the Audit Team.
Mr. Bullas holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in business and management studies from Bradford University School of Management. He holds the IMC (Investment Management Certificate) and is a Chartered MCSI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment).
Stephen Snowden
Co-Head of Fixed Income at Kames Capital
Stephen Snowden is Co-Head of Fixed Income at Kames Capital.
He specialises in investment grade credit and co-manages two investment grade bond funds and an absolute return bond fund. He rejoined Kames Capital in July 2011 from Old Mutual Asset Management where he managed a corporate bond fund. Stephen started his career with us in 1994, initially focusing on equities before moving to the fixed income team to manage corporate bond funds.
He has a first class honours degree BSc Finance and an MSc Finance from Queens University Belfast. He has 23 years’ industry experience.
Ben Heatley
Sales and Investor Relations, Nimrod
Ben joined Nimrod in May 2017. He began his career in 2010 as a Research Analyst at City of London Investment Group Plc before progressing to become a Portfolio Manager within the Emerging Markets Closed End Fund Team. He joined N+1 Singer Capital Markets Ltd as a Fund Analyst in 2015 before moving into Specialist Sales at Cantor Fitzgerald Europe in the Investment Companies Team. Ben read Economics at the University of Hertfordshire and has an MSc in Investment Management from Cass Business School in London.
James Rutland
Fund Manager, Schroders
James Rutland is a Fund Manager at Schroders, responsible for co-managing the Schroder ISF* European Equity Focus. He is also the back-up fund manager for the Schroder European Alpha Income Fund and Schroder European Alpha Plus Fund.
James joined Schroders in 2014 and is based in London. He was an Analyst at Goldman Sachs from 2010 to 2014, within the Industrials team.
James graduated from University College London with a degree in Economics and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
*Schroder International Selection Fund is referred to as Schroder ISF
