The art of multi-asset forum gives you a behind the scenes look into the rigorous fund selection process carried out by Architas when constructing our multi-manager funds. Bringing together some of the leading, specialist fund managers in asset management; we will take a deep dive by asset class into some of the most successful funds we hold and how each fund contributes to the overall performance and diversification of our multi-manager portfolios.

Sheldon MacDonald

Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Architas

Sheldon co-manages Architas Multi-Asset Blended, Architas Multi-Asset Passive and Elite Fund ranges, as well as the Architas Diversified Real Assets, Architas Diversified Global Income and Architas Multi-Manager UK Equity Funds. He oversees fund selection and manages the products' asset allocation and investment strategies. He also leads fund manager research on multi-asset and money market strategies.

Before joining Architas in 2010, Sheldon was a fund of funds manager at Nedgroup Investments, part of Old Mutual Plc. As well as running a varietyof long only multi-asset strategies, Sheldon has extensive experience in the hedge fund space and, prior to joining Nedgroup Investments, was Head of Derivative Trading at Old Mutual Asset Managers in South Africa.

Sheldon has a BComm in Financial Accounting and Economics and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a CFA charterholder. He has 22 years of investment experience.

Dev Chakrabarti

Portfolio Manager/Senior Research Analyst – Concentrated Global Growth, AB

Dev Chakrabarti is a Portfolio Manager/Senior Research Analyst for Concentrated Global Growth. Prior to joining AB in December 2013, he was a portfolio manager/analyst on the global equity research and portfolio-management team at WPS Advisors. Chakrabarti joined W.P. Stewart in 2005 as a member of the European equity research and portfolio-management team, and moved to New York in 2008 to focus on global portfolios. Earlier in his career, he worked as an M&A analyst at Merrill Lynch, a financial analyst at Unilever and an equity analyst at J.P. Morgan Securities, where he specialized in European technology stocks. Chakrabarti holds a BSc (Hons) in economics from the University of Bristol and an MSc in finance from London Business School. Location: London.

Dan Green

Portfolio Manager, Templeton Investments

Dan Green is a portfolio manager and Equity Research analyst for the Franklin UK Equity Team, focussing on UK Small- and Mid-cap equities. He is a co-manager on the Franklin UK Smaller Companies fund. Dan joined Franklin Templeton Investments in September 2015.

Dan began his career with PwC working predominately with Financial Services clients before joining JP Morgan to work as Equity Derivatives Analyst. His role prior to Franklin Templeton Investments was at Deutsche Bank where he was Assistant Vice President in the Valuations team.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sheffield. He also holds an Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Richard Bullas

Vice President, Portfolio Manager - UK Equity, Franklin

Richard Bullas is a vice president and portfolio manager at Franklin Templeton Fund Management. He is co-manager on the Franklin UK Smaller Companies Fund and manages the Smaller Companies portion of the Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. Richard has worked with the fund management team for over 13 years, joining Franklin Templeton Fund Management via the acquisition of Rensburg Fund Management in 2011.

Mr. Bullas joined the team in 2000 as a Trainee Fund Manager, supporting the fund managers on a range of equity unit trusts while studying for his professional investment qualifications (IMC and Chartered MCSI). After 3 years he was appointed Assistant Fund Manager, assisting and reporting to the investment director, specifically on the management of the Franklin UK Smaller Companies Trust and the Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. From 2006 he was made Fund Manager and Associate Director while at Rensburg, comanaging 2 UK Equity Mandates as well deputy fund manager on the Franklin UK Select Growth Trust and Franklin UK Manager's Focus Fund. Richard has covered the UK smaller companies sector for 13 years and has considerable experience researching and analysing smaller companies.

Prior to joining Rensburg Fund Management (now Franklin Templeton Fund Management) Mr. Bullas worked at AVIVA Plc as a Market Analyst in the life and pensions department. Prior to that he spent a short time working at a Chartered Accountants, for the Audit Team.

Mr. Bullas holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in business and management studies from Bradford University School of Management. He holds the IMC (Investment Management Certificate) and is a Chartered MCSI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment).

Euan McNeil

Investment manager, Kames Capital

Euan McNeil is an investment manager in the Fixed Income team. He specialises in investment grade credit and co-manages two investment grade bond funds as well as several institutional portfolios. Euan joined us in 2003 from Britannic Asset Management, where he worked in the corporate bond team. Prior to that, he was an international equities manager at Blairlogie Capital Management. Euan studied International Business and French at the University of Strathclyde and has an MSc in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling. He has 20 years’ industry experience.

Ben Heatley

Sales and Investor Relations, Nimrod

Ben joined Nimrod in May 2017. He began his career in 2010 as a Research Analyst at City of London Investment Group Plc before progressing to become a Portfolio Manager within the Emerging Markets Closed End Fund Team. He joined N+1 Singer Capital Markets Ltd as a Fund Analyst in 2015 before moving into Specialist Sales at Cantor Fitzgerald Europe in the Investment Companies Team. Ben read Economics at the University of Hertfordshire and has an MSc in Investment Management from Cass Business School in London. 

Stuart Podmore

Investment Propositions Director, Schroders

Stuart joined the Financial Institutions and Strategic Accounts team in December 2015 as Investment Propositions Director. Prior to joining Schroders, he held positions at JP Morgan as a Fixed Income Client Portfolio Manager serving the EMEA Funds business and Head of UK Strategic Alliances within UK Fund Sales.

He was previously employed by Barclays plc for over 8 years in a number of marketing and sales roles and was an Army Officer for 6 years with the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Stuart holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Manchester. He is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Charter Holder and holds the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society of the UK.

James Sym

Fund Manager, Schroders

James Sym is a Fund Manager at Schroders, responsible for the Schroder European Alpha Income Fund, Schroder European Alpha Plus Fund and co-manager of Schroder ISF* European Equity Focus. He joined Schroders in 2013 and is based in London.

James was a Fund Manager at Cazenove Capital Management from 2007 to 2013, responsible for European portfolios which he continued to manage following Schroders acquisition of Cazenove in 2013.

James graduated from St John’s College, Cambridge with a degree in Natural Sciences and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
